The Center’s Legacy Fund

Securing the Future of Active Aging in Brainerd

Legacy Tree giving levels wall display with donor leaves

If you’ve ever walked past The Center’s Legacy Tree in the building’s lobby area, you already know it’s something special.

Each leaf on that beautiful display represents a person or group that someone chose to honor. It’s touching, really—every leaf holds a story, a memory, or a thank-you.

Just the other day, one of our members purchased a leaf to honor a volunteer. What a heartfelt way to recognize someone who has made a difference! Moments like that remind us how meaningful it is to celebrate the people who shape our community.

But the Legacy Tree is more than a beautiful tribute. Each leaf also helps support The Center’s future. Contributions made through the Legacy Tree go into a dedicated account that ensures we can continue serving aging adults for years (and even decades!) to come. If you or your group has someone special to honor, we’d love for you to consider adding a leaf of your own.

The Legacy Fund: A Dream That Became a Plan

The Legacy Fund didn’t happen overnight—it began as a dream from longtime board member Bob Campbell. Bob served on The Center’s board for nearly nine years, and during that time he became convinced that the best way to secure The Center’s long-term future was to build a lasting fund.  In 2011, that vision took a big step forward. The Center was notified that it was one of six nonprofits awarded mineral rights on 26 acres of land in North Dakota. All six organizations agreed to sell those rights and share the proceeds. After legal fees, The Center received a check for $20,111.55 on November 27, 2011.  Armed with those funds, the board began researching the best way to create a sustainable, long-term resource. After seeking advice from several foundations, they selected the Brainerd Community Foundation to manage and grow what officially became The Center’s Legacy Fund.

Help Us Build a Stronger Tomorrow

We’re thrilled to have a fund in place that helps secure The Center’s future, and we’re even more excited to invite the community to be part of it. If you’re interested in donating, just flip the page for the contribution form. For a deeper conversation or to schedule a meeting, reach out to Executive Director.

Together, we’re building something lasting—something that honors yesterday, supports today, and prepares The Center for tomorrow.
